Formal verification of the Gripen flight control system through pilot-in-the-loop S-Rig testing and desktop simulation.
Overview
While working at the GDDN facility, I learned about a work package dedicated to Flight Control System verification. After some meetings and adjustments, I joined it as a Verification and Validation Engineer.
What I did
- Carried out formal system verification activities for the Gripen flight control system.
- Ran S-Rig test sessions with a pilot in the loop.
- Ran desktop simulations using Saab proprietary software.
- Analyzed test data with Python and MATLAB/Simulink.
- Produced engineering reports used in Saab’s formal verification documentation.
Takeaways
This role combined my control engineering background with rigorous, documentation-driven verification, and gave me a deep look at how flight control systems are proven safe before they fly.
